I am Jen Allen, mom of Grant High School senior Andrew Allen. He is the guitar player for the Grant Band Jazz Ensemble. I have volunteered with Grant Band Boosters since Andrew's freshman year and was Band Booster president last year. Music is a very important part of our lives, and we love giving back to the wonderful band program at Grant. This is a trip year for both Wind and Jazz Ensembles -- they head to Southern California in April, and I would like to help all eligible students participate regardless of their family means.
Another passion of mine is running, specifically ultra running. Ultra running is any distance over a marathon. Between January and June of 2014, I ran a ultra race every month. I had a pretty major set back over the summer when a random health issue caused me to undergo two surgeries, one resulting in the removal of a kidney in July. I was worried about how long my recovery might take, but my doctors say I've made a full recovery and am ready to run! I am training for my first ultra race post surgery, a 50K race on November 1st at Silver Creek Falls.
This race symbolizes a personal victory for me, but I also hope it will help me raise money to support the amazing student musicians of the Grant Band community. Please help support me and Grant Band by making a donation.
